Description
Mission 778CDT CD Transport
The Mission 778CDT CD Transport is a dedicated, compact, purposeful and digitally optimised CD Transport, designed for pure signal delivery and seamless system integration.
The Mission 778X marked the brand’s return to integrated amplification after more than three decades — a compact, powerful amplifier that redefined expectations at its price point. Built on that foundation, the 778CDT brings the same philosophy to CD playback: focused design, uncompromising engineering, and music as the priority.
Physically, it is the perfect CD spinner to include in an all-Mission hi-fi system with a delightfully compact aesthetic. The 778CDT is the ideal affordable CD transport to partner any high-performance DAC, or amp with digital inputs, from any audio brand you choose.

FAQ’s
- What is the Mission 778CDT? The 778CDT is a dedicated CD transport designed to extract digital audio from CDs and send it to an external DAC with maximum accuracy.
- Does the 778CDT have a built-in DAC? No, it is a pure CD transport and requires an external DAC or amplifier with digital inputs.
- What digital outputs are available? It offers coaxial and optical digital outputs for flexible connection to a wide range of DACs.
- Is the 778CDT designed to match other Mission components? Yes, it is visually and sonically matched to the Mission 778X integrated amplifier and the wider 778 series.
- What type of listener is the 778CDT best suited for? It’s ideal for audiophiles who value their CD collection and want high-quality, jitter-free digital playback.
Features
Housed in the same elegant, compact half-width design and striking retro form that made the 778X a modern classic, the 778CDT completes the 778 Series as its dedicated CD transport — a digital-first device designed for audio purity and seamless system integration.
Engineering & Performance
At its heart, the 778CDT employs a custom CD transport mechanism with a precision servo control system, engineered to ensure stable disc rotation, accurate tracking, and robust error correction. A temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) is used as the master clock, significantly reducing jitter and delivering a clean, stable SPDIF signal to the downstream DAC.
True to Mission’s engineering philosophy, the design avoids unnecessary complexity.
Key circuit functions, the transport, laser, decoder, and master clock are powered by dedicated low-noise supplies, minimising interference and preserving signal integrity throughout the playback chain.
The result is a digital output that remains faithful to the source, allowing connected DACs to perform at their best.
Connectivity & Digital Flexibility
Digital output is provided via both coaxial and optical SPDIF, ensuring straightforward compatibility with the internal DAC of the 778X or any high-quality external DAC system.
Beyond disc playback, the 778CDT also supports USB-HDD music playback, extending its role as a versatile digital transport. High-resolution audio files stored on USB devices, including FLAC, WAV, MP3, WMA, and APE are handled using the same precision clocking and low-noise architecture as CD playback, ensuring consistent performance across physical and locally stored digital media.
Part Of A Complete System
Together, the 778X, 778S, and 778CDT form a complete, modular hi-fi ecosystem — compact, stackable, and designed for serious listening without unnecessary complexity.
As with all Mission products, the 778CDT is not defined by specifications alone. It exists to serve the music — delivering clarity, timing, and emotional connection in a system built to last.
