WHAT HIFI – REVIEW SUMMARY COMPARES B&M 603 to FYNE F501s:
“B&W recommends listening to them without the plinths for the best audio performance, so it’s a good excuse to leave them in the packaging……. compare the fit and finish of the B&W 603s to the similarly priced Fyne 601s and, in our opinion, the latter come across as considerably more premium…..our only slight reservation would is that the B&W 603s don’t deliver the most relaxed of listens. If you prefer a balance that’s a little less forward and more easy going, you might want to consider the Fyne Audio F501s instead. The B&Ws time well, but the FYNE F501s have an even better sense of musicality, if you like your speakers with a certain balance, it’s worth bearing in mind”
BASSTRAX PORT SYSTEM
Fyne Audio’s flagship BassTrax Tractrix diffuser bass porting system is integrated into all F700 models. Using a large, downfiring port with a mathematically derived tractrix profile conical diffuser creates a true 360 degree LF wavefront. The result is unrivalled bass integration in any room, offering the depth and scale of a large, ported cabinet loudspeaker without the potential bass bloom caused by typical port/room interactions. The clever design makes F700 series far less sensitive of room position than traditional loudspeakers, enabling easy in room placement for aesthetic or practical reasons.
Low-loss, laminated core inductors and audiophile-grade polypropylene capacitors are used exclusively throughout the F500 series crossovers. The result is an exceptionally clean signal path and very low crossover losses, ensuring the very best in detail resolution and musical communication.
The F500 range is as impressive with movies as it is music. FYNE AUDIO’s point source driver technology is ideal for articulating the finest of movie detail with pin-point accuracy. High efficiency and high-power handling means the F500 series delivers an incredibly dynamic and lifelike performance whether you are listening to DTS Master Audio or Dolby True HD.
IsoFlare™ point source drivers are at the heart of every F700 model. Benefitting from Fyne’s Flagship F1 series technology, the IsoFlare units feature a 25mm magnesium diaphragm compression tweeter mounted coaxially into the heart of a potent MF/LF driver featuring a rigid multi-fibre cone and FyneFlute™ roll surround.
The high powered compression HF drivers give true point source isotropic radiation for unsurpassed imaging and even frequency response. Neodymium motors with vented rear chambers and a metal pole piece to transfer heat ensure outstanding power handling. Direct output from the diaphragm has been expertly tuned with an HF waveguide with unique geometry that proved an incredibly flat frequency response to over 30kHz.
The IsoFlare’s bass/midrange section and the auxiliary drivers in the floorstanding models, use Fyne’s proprietary multi-fibre cone with its extremely natural sounding midrange and fast transient attack. The unique FyneFlute roll surround is shaped to more effectively terminate cone energy, eliminating unwanted resonances from colouring bass and midrange microdetail. The massive motor assembly includes a flux focusing magnet for increased LF sensitivity, resulting in a driver that can comfortably deliver the dynamics of high energy instruments.
High power handling and high efficiency are hallmarks of the IsoFlare point source design. The F700 series’ potent 200mm and 250mm IsoFlare drivers comfortably deliver on the promise of live music dynamics and real world sound pressure levels across the range.
To fully optimise the driver’s performance, every aspect of the meticulous design has been considered. A vented rear chamber in the Neodymium HF magnet places low frequency resonance well below crossover region. The unique geometry of the high frequency unit’s waveguide provides a flat frequency response and avoids internal reflections.
To eliminate unwanted vibrations, which would be detrimental to the sound quality, both the point source driver and the supplementary low frequency driver fitted to the floor standing models, are built around a rigid cast aluminium chassis. Multifibre paper cones are used providing natural sounding midrange and clean transient behaviour. Cone energy is then very effectively terminated using a fluted rubber surround.
