Description

About the Technics SL-1210GME Direct Drive Turntable

The Technics SL-1210GME Direct Drive Turntable builds on the high-end SL-1210G platform, then adds Technics’ upgraded ΔΣ-Drive, Delta Sigma Drive, a twin-rotor coreless direct drive motor, a three-layer brass and aluminium platter, a four-layer cabinet, high-damping αGEL insulators, a magnesium tonearm finished in gold, and a gold serial number plate.

Technics states that the Master Edition is limited worldwide to 1,200 silver SL-1200GME units and 1,210 black SL-1210GME units.

The SL-1210GMEEK is supplied without a cartridge and without a built-in phono stage. That makes it ideal for customers who want to choose the exact MM or MC cartridge, phono stage, amplifier, and speakers for a serious analogue system.

What We Think

At Rapallo, the Technics SL-1210GMEEK is one for collectors and serious vinyl listeners. It is not just another black SL-1200-style turntable. It is the Master Edition version of the Grand Class SL-1210G platform, with technical updates and special edition detailing.

The most important upgrade is ΔΣ-Drive. Technics says the SL-1200GME / SL-1210GME expands the PWM carrier frequency from around 2kHz to over 20kHz. This is designed to reduce audible noise and further suppress motor micro-vibrations. In practical terms, it should help the turntable deliver cleaner rotation, stronger pitch stability, and a quieter foundation for the cartridge.

We also like the way Technics has kept the mechanical strengths of the SL-1210G. You get the twin-rotor coreless motor, the heavy three-layer platter, the four-layer cabinet, and a magnesium tonearm. So, this is still a serious high-end Technics deck, not a cosmetic-only special edition.

For NZ customers, the SL-1210GMEEK is best treated as a long-term turntable platform. Match it with a quality cartridge, a low-noise phono stage, and a strong amplifier. Because it is limited, it also has extra appeal for customers who want something special in the Technics range.

Key Features

Master Edition of the SL-1200G / SL-1210G Series

Technics describes the SL-1200GME / SL-1210GME as the final version of the beloved SL-1200G / SL-1210G series. It is a limited Master Edition, with 1,200 silver units and 1,210 black units available worldwide.

Black or Silver SL-1210GME Finish

The SL-1210GME is the black version of the Master Edition. The silver version is the SL-1200GME.

Gold Logo and Serial Number Plate

The Master Edition features a gold-painted embossed logo and a serial number plate. This gives each unit a more collectible look and clearly identifies it as part of the limited Master Edition release.

Gold-Finished Magnesium Tonearm

The SL-1210GME uses a lightweight magnesium tonearm finished in gold paint. Magnesium gives excellent damping and low mass, while the gold finish separates the Master Edition visually from the standard SL-1210G.

Twin-Rotor Coreless Direct Drive Motor

The coreless direct drive motor eliminates cogging for smooth rotation. Its twin-rotor construction helps maintain high torque while reducing bearing load and small rotational vibrations.

Upgraded ΔΣ-Drive Motor Control

The upgraded ΔΣ-Drive system uses Technics’ PWM signal processing expertise. It raises the PWM carrier frequency from around 2kHz to over 20kHz, helping reduce audible noise and suppress micro-vibrations from the motor.

Three-Layer Turntable Platter

The platter combines brass and aluminium die-cast construction, with deadening rubber across the rear surface. This gives the platter high rigidity, strong damping, and smooth rotational stability.

Factory Balance Adjustment

Technics balance-adjusts each platter at the factory using high-precision equipment. Units that complete this process receive a “BALANCED” sticker. This helps reduce vibration and noise during rotation.

Four-Layer Cabinet Construction

The cabinet uses a 10mm-thick aluminium top panel over a three-layer structure of aluminium die-cast, BMC, and heavyweight-class rubber. This creates a rigid and well-damped chassis.

High-Damping αGEL Insulators

The SL-1210GMEEK/SL-1200GMEES uses newly developed zinc insulators with αGEL material. These help absorb shock, reduce feedback, and improve vibration isolation.

Multi-Stage Silent Power Supply

Technics uses a low-noise switching circuit and current-injection active noise cancelling. This is designed to reduce residual power-supply noise and help the motor control system operate more cleanly.

Cartridge Freedom

The SL-1210GMEEK is supplied without a cartridge. This is the right approach at this level, because cartridge choice should match the phono stage, amplifier, speakers, and the listener’s preferred sound.

33, 45 and 78 RPM Playback

The SL-1210GME supports 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM playback. Technics notes that the 78 setting runs at 78.26 RPM. A suitable 78 RPM cartridge or stylus is required for shellac records.

Perfect System Match

A strong match would be the Technics SL-1210GMEEK or SL-1200GMEES, a high-quality moving-coil cartridge, a low-noise MC phono stage, and a powerful integrated amplifier.

For a premium Technics-based system, pair it with the Technics SU-R1000 or SU-G700M2. For a more traditional hi-fi system, match it with a Marantz MODEL 30, Marantz MODEL 10 or  Musical Fidelity. Then choose the cartridge carefully, because the SL-1210GMEEK is good enough to reveal cartridge and phono stage differences very clearly.
