About the Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable with Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge

The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable is supplied with the Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge, giving it a lively and detailed cartridge match straight out of the box..

The built-in phono stage can be switched between Line Out and Phono Out. Therefore, you can connect the T2 Super Phono directly to powered speakers, a line input, or an amplifier with its own phono stage. It also includes electronic 33/45 RPM speed switching, a heavy 10mm glass platter, and European manufacture.

What we think

At Rapallo, the Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono is a very attractive choice for customers who want better vinyl performance than an entry-level deck, but still want simple setup.

The Super Phono stage is the key benefit. Many built-in phono stages are basic. However, Pro-Ject has used a dual-stage split-passive MM design here. That gives the turntable a more serious starting point, especially for customers connecting to powered speakers or a normal line input.

We also like the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge option. The 2M Red is a well-known moving-magnet cartridge with a tipped elliptical stylus and strong output. It gives the T2 Super Phono an open and dynamic character, while also offering an easy stylus upgrade path later within the 2M family.

The larger chassis and 10mm glass platter also matter. They help the turntable feel more stable and more substantial than many basic plug-and-play models. Plus, the 9-inch aluminium tonearm and adjustable spring anti-skating give it a more complete hi-fi feel.

For NZ customers building a clean vinyl system, this is a strong match with powered speakers, a quality integrated amplifier, or a compact stereo setup. It is simple enough for new vinyl listeners, but refined enough to justify better speakers and amplification.

What the Experts Say

  • The T2 feels and sounds like a huge step up.”  The internal phono stage is dead silent. Pitch stability is excellent. The combination of low noise floor and naturally spacious presentation combines to pull a gratifying amount of information out of the record and sound fundamentally satisfying while you do so. AVForum. UK, 06.2024  +Read More
  • The Super Phono with built-in preamplification is an absolute recommendation.” What the T2’s integrated preamplifier delivered is not so easy to achieve with separate solutions: balanced and open tonal structures and timbres flowed into our listening room, and the dynamics also improved thanks to the in-house “Super Phono” board. OMINT. 08.2024, Germany
  • Super bang-for-the-buck.” The table to beat in its price range. The T2 Super Phono got to the heart and soul of the music I played – it was a blast to spin and experience. It has as much kick, punch, power, and demonstrative abilities as way more expensive machines. The T2’s own phono preamp had warmth and detail retrieval in spades. Analog Planet. +Read More

Key Features

Built-In Super Phono Stage

The T2 Super Phono includes a high-quality dual-stage split-passive MM phono preamp. This allows direct connection to powered speakers, line inputs, and many modern hi-fi systems. Also, the phono stage can be switched off if you prefer to use a separate phono preamp.

Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge Included

This version comes pre-fitted with the Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge. The 2M Red is known for open, dynamic sound with a touch of warmth. It uses a tipped elliptical diamond and has a 5.5mV output.

Heavy 10mm Glass Platter

The T2 Super Phono uses a 10mm thick glass platter weighing around 1.7kg. This gives the turntable a more stable rotating platform and helps avoid the resonance issues found in some lightweight plastic or steel platters.

Larger CNC-Machined Chassis

The expanded plinth is CNC-machined and designed without hollow spaces. Therefore, it offers better stability and helps reduce unwanted vibration through the chassis.

9-Inch Aluminium Tonearm

The longer 9-inch aluminium tonearm gives the T2 Super Phono a more serious tonearm platform than many entry-level turntables. It has an effective length of 230mm and an effective mass of 9.5g.

Adjustable Spring-Based Anti-Skating

The T2 Super Phono uses a spring-based anti-skating system. This is adjustable, which helps optimise tracking performance with the fitted cartridge.

Electronic Speed Switching

Electronic 33 and 45 RPM speed switching makes everyday use easier. So, you can change between LPs and 45s without manually moving the belt.

Switchable Phono and Line Output

The rear output switch lets you choose between Phono Out and Line Out. Use Line Out when connecting to a normal AUX, CD, Tape, or powered speaker input. Use Phono Out when connecting to a separate phono stage or amplifier phono input.

Made in Europe

The T2 Super Phono is made in Europe by a dedicated turntable factory. This gives it a more credible hi-fi foundation than many generic plug-and-play turntables.
