FAQ’s
- What type of system is the Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier best suited for? The Onkyo M-80 is ideal for high-end two-channel stereo systems where power, clarity, and speaker control are critical. It’s designed for audiophiles who want dedicated power amplification rather than an all-in-one solution.
- Does the Onkyo M-80 include a preamplifier or volume control? No, the M-80 is a power amplifier only. It must be paired with a compatible preamplifier, integrated amplifier with pre-outs, or AV processor to control volume and source selection.
- Can the Onkyo M-80 drive demanding or low-impedance speakers? Yes, the M-80’s high-current design provides strong control and stability, making it well suited to driving larger floorstanding or power-hungry speakers with confidence.
- Is the Onkyo M-80 suitable for home theatre use? While primarily designed for stereo listening, the M-80 can be used in a home theatre system when paired with an AV processor or receiver that offers pre-out connections.
- Why choose the Onkyo M-80 from Rapallo AV? Purchasing from Rapallo AV ensures expert advice, local support, and peace of mind that your system is correctly matched and optimised for the best possible performance.
Features
Powering the music that moves you
The Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier uses a three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier. This three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier has a very low output impedance. It powerfully drives speakers with a large current.
Additionally, by keeping NFB (negative feedback) low, it’s not affected by extra noise from the speaker, offering a powerful yet highly resolving and informative sound. The M-80’s output stage transistors are in parallel configuration, providing excellent instantaneous current supply capability, further enhancing the rise of sound and the sense of power.
The driver stage of the M-80 amplifier uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) which reduces noise in the ultra-high frequency band with DIDRC’s High Slew Rate Design and helps produce the natural sound of an analog record.
Cutting-edge componentry, captivating playback
The Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier features custom high current power supply to provide, dynamic full-range sound, and an extrusion aluminum heat sink that suppresses vibration.
The addition of high-quality 10000uF capacitors custom-made exclusively for Onkyo, Hi-Fi grade terminals (both speaker output and audio input terminals), copper bus bars, and a robust vibration-proof front panel ensure powerful, world-class playback.
The M-80 housing consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-piece housing construction increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance for altogether improved sound quality.
Create your perfect system
The M-80 has an output power of 130w (8Ω, 20Hz – 20kHz, THD 0.07%, 2ch driven) / 200w(4Ω, 1kHz, THD 0.7%, 2ch driven) which allows it to powerfully drive large speakers and bring you dynamic acoustic information. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with the P-80 and M-80 would maximize the dynamic and extended sound of the Forte.
From Onkyo academy: Benefits of a power amplifier
A power amplifier receives the signal from your pre-amp and literally powers it into your speakers. Think of your pre-amp as a brain, and your power amplifier as the muscle. Separating your amplifiers into pre- and power give you ultimate flexibility in audio playback.
Furthermore, since they are not affected by each other’s circuits, they can provide high-resolution sound quality through even cleaner signal transmission. Audiophiles are well-known to prefer specific power amps. This is for the way they impact sound quality and coloration. The M-80 is a power amplifier that reproduces the full range of artists’ intentions in their music and drives you into a world of emotion.
The Icon series, developed to be the icon of the Onkyo brand. It is not only a renewal of Onkyo’s previous Hi-Fi products but the culmination of Onkyo’s accumulated and continuously evolving sound creation technologies.
