Yamaha EF Series NS-777 Floorstanding Speaker

Great Value + Natural Sound

I'm a big fan of Yamaha , you know what you are getting , and the products do what they claim. The NS-777's are not the most detailed or beautiful sounding speaker,but they are perfectly in-keeping with Yamahas "natural sound" philosophy, and offer exeptional value. My 777's are powered by an older Yamaha A S-700 [which lacks Bi-amp capability] and they sound balanced and have a very good room filling quality which is the reason I bought them - they are in a large room. They do require a few hours use to sound "right". The large ported towers help these units attain a warm quality, and give a nice "woody" timbre to upper mids. I have seen comments that you require a subwoofer with these, which may be the case if used as part of a surround sound system, but for music reproduction they are more than adequate by themselves in my opinion - realistic sounding "earthquakes" is not the same thing as reproducing recorded music. I also have a home recording studio which utilizes Yamaha HS-8 near-field monitors.These have a lot more detailed sound and a completely Flat EQ, which is what you want from a studio monitor, but once again they also offer incredible value, do exactly what Yamaha claim , and are the equal of more "fashionable" products that are 4-5 x more costly. My experience with Rapallo was great, they did not have the 777's in stock but sourced them very quickly , the guys were friendly and helpful. Grant
