They are a portable product that receive audio signals using radio frequency (RF) waves rather than over audio cables, so they can be positioned in the home where there is wireless connections.

Outside of using the network to stream via a connected cable, there are two popular RF frequencies that support audio transmission to wireless loudspeakers. These two are connected via WiFi or Bluetooth to transmit audio data to the receiving unit.

Apart from the employed RF standard, these wireless units can basically be distinguished by their dedicated field of use.

Sound quality

The number of drivers can vary in the unit: while entry-level models are limited to a single driver, more elaborate models can offer two, and thus have stereo sound reproduction. Some wireless units add a passive radiator to improve low frequency reproduction and achieve deeper sound.
